After having completed my one year Reception / Administration apprenticeship with Step By Step Recruitment, I am delighted to have been taken on as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant. Due to this, Step By Step Recruitment are now looking to find a new apprentice.  Here’s  a reflection on my year for anyone considering joining the team…

I applied for an apprenticeship through 3aaa (Aspire, Achieve, Advance) apprenticeship agency.  I contacted 3aaa after seeing a number of their ads on Indeed and I was offered the position at Step By Step Recruitment within two weeks of registering, which was good as I was keen to start earning.  I decided to go down the apprenticeship route after finishing my studies, as I am not very academic and much prefer learning through being practical rather than listening to a lecturer in a classroom.

The year I have spent working at Step By Step Recruitment I have honestly really enjoyed.  It is a very busy environment and no two days are the same, which keeps the job role interesting.  I have also found that the recruitment industry is very sociable, I am always meeting new people in the office on a daily basis.  This apprenticeship scheme, along with the team have massively helped ease me into working life.  On a personal point I have found this role has boosted my confidence enormously, as I am the first point of contact when you arrive at the office.

With all job roles there are pros and cons, my apprenticeship in Reception/Administration was a very enjoyable experience with more pros than cons.  Looking back on my year, I would say one of the main struggles was finding the time to complete the coursework.  I would find it hard while working in a busy and distractive environment.

One of the biggest highs for me during 2017, has to be when I was lucky enough to attend one of Step By Step Recruitments largest events, The Cheltenham Festival.  This is the busiest week of the year for the team in the office. By attending this event I found it helped me to understand the environments that our staff are working in.  It was also good to put a face to a name for the clients I have spoken to during my time on reception.

I am forming relationships with clients and staff constantly, as I am their main point of contact. There are many more ups and downs with my new job role but the good outweighs the bad in every situation. I am truly excited to see what the next year of development brings, as Trainee Recruitment Consultant and am really looking forward to progressing in this role, to the best of my ability.
